The Best Natural Cold Remedies and Flu Treatment

Tea has long been considered a fantastic cold remedy and treatment for the nastiest symptoms of both cold and flu. Teas with ginger, lemon, echinacea and eucalyptus are the best cold remedies and when sipped warm with a bit of honey, they help sooth sore throats and congestion too.

If you are feeling really under the weather but don’t want to dose up on over the counter medicine, we can help you recover with some natural cold remedies and flu treatment. (Alternatively, you can supplement your medicine with tea to help ease some of the worse symptoms).

Let us walk you through our favourite remedies...

Last autumn we created our cold and flu tea, Cold Weather Warrior! This aptly named herbal tea has both echinacea and eucalyptus, healing herbs perfect for soothing cold and flu symptoms as well as boosting your immune system to prevent you getting cold and flu in the first place!

As mentioned earlier, it is also great to add a little drizzle of our Raw Matcha Honey, packed full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals which goes fantastically with any of our cold kicking Bird & Blend brews.

Once cold or flu hits, lots of ginger in tea form can help shift a blocked nose and sooth a sore throat and we recommend another of our bestselling teas – Gingerbread Chai

Cold Remedy Tea

Matcha tea is also great when you are suffering from cold, flu or congestion as it is highly caffeinated as well as high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It will help give you the energy to face the day as well as supporting your immune system to fight back.

Our cold weather teas speak for themselves – both Cold Weather Warrior and Gingerbread Chai were originally supposed to be limited edition but turned out to be so popular that we kept them in our range permanently!

You can learn more about the healing benefits of eucalyptus tea, echinacea tea as well as lemon and ginger tea benefits below.

Eucalyptus tea benefits

The long suspected ability of eucalyptus tea to sooth topical cold and flu symptoms- as well as supporting your immune system- could make it the perfect choice if you are under the weather. The leaves of the eucalyptus tree, native to Australia, have been used to make tea for centuries.

Tea (and oils and balms) made from the eucalyptus plant is well known for its ability to sooth cold related aliments such as sore throats, blocked sinuses, chapped skin, flu and fevers. Eucalyptus oil is a common ingredient in vapour rub type balms as well as lip and skin balms because it is said to help to clear phlegm and mucus associated with colds, sooth chapped skin (from all that nose blowing!) as well as having anti-bacterial properties.

Echinacea tea benefits

Echinacea is another 'under the weather' tea which has been used in traditional herbal medicine for centuries to support your immune system, especially if you are suffering from colds or flu. A warm drink can always help soothe a sore throat but echinacea is said to be particularly effective at reducing swollen glands and inflamed throats. Drinking echinacea tea is said to help speed up recovery once a cold has hit, as well as help build up immunity and resistance if drunk regularly throughout the winter months.
